I like to ride on elevators, 'cause they go up and down. I like to ride on carousels, 'cause they go round and round. I like to fly on planes and zoom through the air. Or I'll take a train, 'cause it'll get me there! And I'll explore the world with you. Have some adventures. There's so much we could do. I'd like to ride on rocket ships – blast off through outer space. Or I'll drive my car and go all over the place. I could row a boat, or paddle a canoe. And it's much more fun when I go with you. I'll explore the world out there. Have some adventures – travel everywhere! I'd like to go to a mountaintop, where I could climb and hike. Or strap on my helmet, so I can peddle my bike. There are so many things I like to do. But they're more fun when I share them with you. There's a big wide world I want to see. So come along, and explore with me. Yeah, come along and explore with me. Just come along and explore with me!

Giant squid and colossal squid Well they’re…no – not the same, no, no siree! But they both can battle whales, They've got tentacles, not tails And they live down deep under the sea They've got no bones – they're invertebrates No spinal columns, it's true they have no bones (have no bones) And though they may be fast when they swim under the sea On land, they can't wave like you and me And on land they can't wiggle like you and me
And on land they can't dance like you and me Colossal squid can weigh 1000 pounds
And they've been rarely seen by folks like you and me But a few years ago
Some sailors saw one from their boat
And brought her back for scientists to study They've got no bones – they're invertebrates No spinal columns, it's true they have no bones (have no bones) And though they may be fast when they swim under the sea On land, they can't stomp like you and me And on land they can't shake like you and me
And on land they can't dance like you and me Giant squid have very large brains
So it's likely that they're also really smart
They've got the largest eyes around
And I know how strange it's gonna sound
But they've got three instead of just one beating heart! They've got no bones – they're invertebrates No spinal columns, it's true they have no bones (have no bones) And though they may be fast when they swim under the sea On land, they can't tip toe like you and me And on land they can't twist like you and me
And on land they can't dance like you and me That's right on land they can't dance like you and me. Oh no, on land they can't dance like you and me!

Birdsong 02:20
Can you hear the bird song? If I knew the words, I would sing along. Oh, I’d go tweet-tweet-tweedly-deet-doo-doo-doo-doo (doot-doo-doo-doo). So let’s go tweet-tweet-tweedly-deet-doo-doo-doo-doo (doot-doo-doo-doo). Can you feel the beat? Does it make you want to tap your feet? Oh, tap your feet-feet-feedly-deet-doo-doo-doo-doo (doot-doo-doo-doo). Just tap your feet-feet-feedly-deet-doo-doo-doo-doo (doot-doo-doo-doo). I go outside in the summertime, I go outside in the spring. And when I hear those chirping birds, it makes me want to sing. Can you hear the bird song? We don’t need the words to sing along. Oh, let’s go tweet-tweet-tweedly-deet-doo-doo-doo-doo (doot-doo-doo-doo). Yeah, let’s go tweet-tweet-tweedly-deet-doo-doo-doo-doo (doot-doo-doo-doo). Can you feel the breeze? As it rushes right through all the trees. Through all the tree-tree-treedly-dees-doo-doo-doo-doo (doot-doo-doo-doo). I go outside in the wintertime, I go outside in the fall. And if I listen close I might just hear those birdies call. Can you hear the bird song? Why don’t we all sing right along? Oh, let’s go tweet-tweet-tweedly-deet-doo-doo-doo-doo (doot-doo-doo-doo). Yeah, let’s go tweet-tweet-tweedly-deet-doo-doo-doo-doo (doot-doo-doo-doo).

Hey Pluto 02:39
I used to feel a little bad for Pluto. It was a planet, but got stripped of its rank. Thought of it floating somewhere out there, born of the Kuiper Belt, Its hopes now dashed – perhaps its poor heart sank. Then I realized: sure it's floating out there, But it's got dwarf planet pals for company. To its real friends, the label doesn't matter. Maybe labels shouldn't matter much to me. CHORUS: Hey Pluto! (Hey Pluto!) It's OK! (It's OK!) Dwarf planets are still cool anyway. Now we finally got a spacecraft out to meet you. So we'll see what the scientists say. REPEAT CHORUS When the International Astronomical Union Defined a planet in 2006, Pluto no longer fit the definition (no, no) Though it has five known moons: Charon, Hydra, Nix, Kerberos and Styx And I thought of poor Pluto sitting out there Just a rock with a lost identity And I wondered did it feel aimless and lonely? Does it know it still has a fan in me? ‘Cause to me, the label doesn't matter (no, no). You've gotta be who you've gotta be. True friendship makes my heart go pitter-patter No the labels don't matter much to me. CHORUS REPEAT CHORUS Oh yeah, we'll see what the scientists say.

Positrons 02:17
Electrons dance around an atom’s nucleus Made of protons & neutrons, Sometimes two atoms share electrons And they form covalent bonds. Groups of atoms make up compounds We encounter everyday. Positrons are a different story, They come from black holes far away. CHORUS: Oh-oh-oh antimatter exists! Quantum physics is real. And what’s most important is the curiosity you feel. Relativity’s how the universe actually works — whoa-oa! Well, they’re all subatomic particles, And they’re way too small to see. But they make up all the universe, Every part of you and me. And it’s really quite amazing, We can study things so small. We can test ideas with science, That’s the coolest thing of all. CHORUS Like the phoenix rising from the flame, They’re born from radioactive decay. And when a positron meets an electron, Each transforms into a gamma ray. Don’t be electrons, always negative. You could be like protons and stay positive! Or be like positrons — fight the negativity. Neutralize; chin up & rise — make the world a better place to be. CHORUS: (Because) Antimatter exists… REPEAT CHORUS: Oh-oh-oh antimatter exists! Quantum physics is real. And what’s most important is the curiosity you feel. (Oo-oo-oo-ooh)

The Ore Song 02:11
Iron ore, is mined from the ground, ‘cause that’s where ore is found. And we’ve got iron ore and silver ore and golden ore and so much more. It’s used for making objects. Coins and tools and jewelry projects. That’s metallurgy in all it’s aspects, na-na-na-na. Na-na-na na-na-na na-na-na-na Na-na-na na-na-na na-na A rowboat oar is found in a boat. You’ll need two I’m compelled to note. You go in circles when there’s only one; Round and round, it’s not much fun. Instead go where you intend, Pull and glide — watch the ripples you send, Maybe ride around with a friend? Na-na-na-na. Na-na-na na-na-na na-na-na-na Na-na-na na-na-na na-na O-R-E, ore. O-A-R, Oar. They sound the same, it’s hard to ignore. They’re called homophones, and truth be known, there is one more (they’re not alone). If faced with a choice to make, O-R’s the right one to take. Now it’s time for a small dance break, na-na-na-na. Na-na-na na-na-na na-na-na-na Na-na-na na-na-na na-na So, when you find, it’s now time to choose O-R’s the right “or” to use. Now once more, show off your dance moves, na-na-na-na. Na-na-na na-na-na na-na-na-na Na-na-na na-na-na na-na

A Better Way 03:17
The garbage truck comes by on Monday And it puts it all the trash in the truck And the recycling truck also comes Monday I can’t get over my luck! The garbage truck picks up the rubbish
And it carts it away, carts it away
But the recycling truck takes all the rest So we’ll use it again another day CHORUS: Oh, the garbage men are my friends I follow them to the end of my street When I wave, they always wave back at me They’re keeping our neighborhood neat! When the garbage truck picks up the refuse Where does it go, where does it go?
Where does recycling go in that recycling truck? Well, does anybody really know? The garbage truck takes all that clutter To a place that's called a landfill
But the recycling goes to a recycling plant Instead of adding more to that hill CHORUS: And the garbage men… When the waste goes to the landfill
It adds up to a big mound
But the recycling plant makes new materials Instead of putting more on the ground Maybe one day soon we'll convert our garbage To another form of energy
We’ll burn up the trash, clean our earth. Make it better for you and me! ‘Cause earth’s creatures are all my friends
I'll protect them the best that I can every day Now I know where all of that garbage goes And I bet we can find a better way. A better way A better way, A better way, A better way.

The problem with my cat’s a bit unique, you see. He really can't help it when he finds he has to sneeze. Though he can snuggle and purr and has soft fur I like to pat, You can't say, “Gezundheit!” to a cat! Since he's a cat, he doesn't know what's happening.
You and I know allergies can be to food or dust or spring, And we can help ourselves with diet or with antihistamines, But a cat can only wonder what it means. CHORUS: Meow, meow, achoo – Gezundheit! Meow, meow, achoo – It's all right. Meow, meow, meow – Achoo, achoo, achoo. Meow, meow, achoo – Bless you! But what if my cat's allergic to cat fur?
I can't imagine what cruel twist of fate would cause that to occur. It seems illogical, improbable, and yet for all of that,
I fear my cat may be allergic to my cat! Oh, what if what you're allergic to is you?
What kind of medication could you take? What's a poor cat to do? But I bet if there was something you could do to help him out,
I know you would, 'cause kindness is what you're about. CHORUS So if you find you're friends with an allergic cat,
There are some things that you can do to help him out right off the bat. Pay attention to the snacks you eat when you're out with his crowd, And if you share, make sure you check that it's allowed. Of course, not every allergy is about food.
You can't control everything in your life because you're in the mood We can't stop a bee from stinging, or make pollen go away,
But we can look out for allergic friends each day. CHORUS
9.
CHORUS: Before it gets cold And it starts to snow I'm gonna go, I'm gonna go down to Mexico Well, I'm gonna fly, fly, fly; fly, fly, fly I'm gonna fly, fly, fly down to Mexico I used to be a caterpillar, just an ittie-bitty caterpillar Just a-chewing on a milkweed stem You know I couldn't fly back then But I began a metamorphosis First I wrapped myself inside my chrysalis I grew and I changed inside I turned into a monarch butterfly CHORUS (So before…) I turned into a butterfly Late this summertime I spent these nice, warm days Way up in the north United States Just a-sticking out my long, long tongue Tasting flowers in the sun But winter is on the way It's gonna get too cold to play CHORUS (Now, before…) So when you see this butterfly You see this butterfly flutter by Blow a little kiss and wave Wish me luck along the way Because I've got so far to go All the way to the mountains of Mexico Winters aren’t so cold down there I'll be back when spring is in the air! CHORUS (And before…) I'm gonna go, I'm gonna go, I'm gonna go, yeah I'm gonna go I'm gonna go, go, go, go, I’m gonna, Yeah, I’m gonna go down to Mexico!
10.
You can’t have a cookie without cookie dough. Without a little rain, there’d be no rainbow. Gotta take that first step so you can go. And go on, you can go on. CHORUS: It can be hard when it’s unknown. When you’ve got to break out of your comfort zone. And though it’s hard, you know it’s true, You’ll be glad you tried something new. You’ve gotta take a risk to ditch your training wheels. You have to cut your teeth no matter how it feels. And both of those count as real big deals, So go on — you can go on. CHORUS Well, you can’t un-boil an egg. And you can’t un-break your leg. There are things you can’t change even if you beg, But move on — you can move on. It can be hard when it’s unknown. When you’ve got to break out of your comfort zone. And though it’s hard, you know it’s true, You’ll be glad you tried something new. Something new.

I saw an alien driving an ambulance today At least I think I did — on the highway. And last Tuesday I saw a bear driving a bus I told my mom, she said, “Are you feeling OK?” There was a cat in a cab and a dog in a dump truck And an elephant riding an escalator. I saw a fox in a firetruck, a ghost in a garbage truck. It waved at me and said, “I’ll see you later!” CHORUS: Da-da da-da-da, da-da-da-da Da-da-da da-da, da-da-da-da da-da So, I told my Dad about the strange things I’ve seen, He said, “Well, I think you’ve been watching way too much TV!” Then a hyena in a hybrid beeped and waved a big hello. But the ibex in the ice-cream truck thought it meant she was slow. She looked a little mad, but ignored it and moved on. Plus, the line of waiting kids was stretching way across the lawn. I told my teacher the story, and she thought it mighty fine. She asked if I would like to share it at the next day’s Circle Time. CHORUS Soon I saw a jeep with a jackal at the wheel On top a kangaroo in a kayak using its tail as a keel. I guess they were going on a weekend camping trip. If I’d only hit record, I’d have a viral online clip! CHORUS Next a llama in a limousine winked as he zoomed by. And a moose on a motorcycle passed and shouted, “Hi!” I saw a newt in a narrowboat headed for the ocean, And an owl in an off-road truck was causing a commotion. The newt thought the ATV was not a wise choice. But the owl didn’t hear her since she had a quiet voice. A parrot in a patrol car switched on his siren, The quail watching from the Q-train wondered if the cops were hirin’? CHORUS The rhino in the roadster seemed like a friendly guy. He smiled at squirrels in a spaceship shooting far across the sky. And if you’ve ever seen a turtle riding in a tow truck, It’s a pretty sad sight — poor thing’s been down on her luck. CHORUS When I told my Grandpa, he clearly agreed. So, I told him everything and soon brought him up to speed. He marveled at a urial riding in a U-boat. Thought the vampire in the van should stay away from my throat. Then I told my Grandma & she gave me a cookie! I’m not sure she believed I saw a water-skiing wookie. And she wondered aloud why a xenops (that’s a bird!) Would need to fly an X-wing fighter — it’s all a bit absurd. CHORUS Everyone tells me that I’m daydreaming ‘Cause a yak in a yacht is awfully odd-seeming But when I told you I saw zebra driving a Zamboni, You said you just saw a peacock on a pony! CHORUS So, now we’ll talk of the wacky things that no one else sees Make up stories and songs and about bobsledding bees. I’m so glad you like to think up this stuff too. You know the best thing to see is a silly friend like you! Yeah, the best thing to have is a silly friend like you!

Now 02:44
I've been waiting for a sign I've been waiting for a sign To tell me when Tell me when to cross the street And you've been waiting for the light You've been waiting for the light To take you far Take you far across the street CHORUS: Now, now, now, now, now, now, now Now, now, now, now, now, now, now Now, now, now, now, now, now, now Woo-hoo, Woo-hoo! Now, now, now, now, now, now, now Now, now, now, now, now, now, now Now, now, now, now, now, now, now Woo-hoo, Woo-hoo! I've been waiting for a sign I've been waiting for a sign To tell me when Tell me when, to cross the street And you've been waiting for the light You've been waiting for the light To take you far To take you far across the street CHORUS And as I'm waiting at the curbside, now I notice patterns in the paint I'm wondering when the cars will stop When I, as I turn and see your face Now, now, now, now, now, now, now Now, now, now, now, now, now, now Now, now, now, now, now, now, now Now, now, now, now, now, now, now Now, now, now, now, now, now, now Now, now, now, now, now, now, now Now, now, now, now, now, now, now Now, now, now, now, now, now, now

about

Positronic is the first full-band album by Marsha and the Positrons. It features a number of celebrated and Grammy®-nominated kindie (kids independent) artists. Legendary children’s performer Barry Louis Polisar (5-time Parents’ Choice Award winner, featured on the Juno soundtrack), lent his voice to "Giant & Colossal Squid," a fun and upbeat song that teaches about the title creatures while suggesting dance moves for the listener. Polisar also sings on "Alien in an Ambulance," a new twist on the alphabet song that pairs a creature with a vehicle for each letter of the alphabet while telling a story about friends that like to use their imaginations together. Lori Henriques (Grammy®-nominated artist) played piano for "Birdsong," a jazzy call-and-response that takes listeners through the seasons as it lets them imagine singing along with the birds. Billy Kelly (Grammy®-nominated artist) played guitar and sang backup on "The Ore Song," a punk-inspired riff on the homophones ore-oar-or, with a subtle message about friendship, a simple but catchy singalong chorus, and an invitation to dance. Kelly also created the colorful retro-style graphic design for the album artwork and band logo.

Like Marsha Goodman-Wood’s award-winning debut solo effort, Gravity Vacation, this record features fun songs about science and how the world works. "Positrons" is about the sub-atomic particle from which the band takes its name— and the song was even fact-checked by two NASA scientists! "Hey Pluto" uses a a 60’s rock flair to talk about Pluto's change in status from a planet to a dwarf planet, how it might feel about that change, and how no one should be defined by their label. The rockabilly-infused "Meow, Meow, Achoo" is inspired by Marsha’s cat, who actually has allergies and sneezes a lot, and it provides a parallel for kids with allergies. The cover of kindie artist Lucas Miller's terrific "The Monarch Butterfly Song," about the life cycle of the monarch and its migration pattern, features Ford Combs’ fantastic Bossanova-tinged guitar stylings and the brass of the record’s accomplished producer and indie rocker TJ Lipple (Aloha). Another cover closing the record is a version of indie rock band Mates of State's "Now," switching up the subject matter to talk about crossing the street, but without skimping on the indie rock experience as the strains of Ford’s electric guitar feedback echo to the very end.
